Tinopolis

The idea of ‘Tinopolis – Celebrating Carmarthenshire’s Industrial Heritage’ is to engage School Pupils to modern advanced manufacturing environments whilst recognising the social history, the ingenuity in the locality and the global importance of 20 miles of Carmarthenshire’s coastline in terms of tinplate manufacture in previous generations.

The project links Llanelli manufacturing companies with Year 8 School Pupils through engaging the pupils with the sounds of the modern Manufacturing environments for the School pupils to create percussion ensemble pieces, with each School being partnered with one Manufacturing organisation.

The school pupils will embark on a series of workshops and create their own pieces of music based on their appraisals of the sights and sounds of the manufacturing environments.

These pieces and the sounds of the manufacturing environments will be used to create a new work for Brass Band, entitled, ‘Tinopolis – Celebrating Carmarthenshire’s Industrial Heritage’ and premiered in Llanelli during 2024.
